High Cholesterol: People Who Should Be Alert

Cholesterol is one type of fat and the liver produces it. Animals synthesizes cholesterol and some part is done by plants and fungi. It is coming from a Greek word chole whose meaning is bile. The normal cholesterol level in human is 3.6 mmol/ lit to 7.8 mmol/ lit.UK health department have mentioned that cholesterol level should be under 5mmol/lit. If cholesterol level is less than 200mg/dl then it is desirable; from 200- 239mg/dl it is borderline high, if it is 240mg/ dl and above then it is high, if less than 5 mmol/lit then it’s optimum level; between 5- 6.4 mmol/lit it is mildly high level; from 6.5 – 7.8 mmol/lit then it is moderately high level and above 7.8mmol/lit it is very high level. Seafood, eggs, hard cheese red meat, pastry, cakes can cause high cholesterol. If there is absence of exercise, most of the time you are sitting or lying down can increase cholesterol level. Another reason is obese or overweight. Last reasons are smoking and taking alcohol. In case of hypertension, diseases of kidney, liver, diabetes, increase level of triglycerides and underactive thyroid gland, you have to consult your doctor.
