When blood cholesterol levels are considered to be high?

Not many are aware that cholesterol, like nutrients, is essential for the proper development of the body. Around 80 per cent of this fat like agent is produced by the liver, the rest 20 per cent comes from the food we eat. Habits of over eating or wrong eating habits increase the deposit of cholesterol to dangerous levels. The blood cholesterol measuring 180 ml/Dl is an ideal figure to attain. However, this ideal level naturally starts increasing with the age. As per the experts, if the cholesterol level records 200-219 ml/ dl, it is believed to hit the borderline. In such cases, the patient may be at a risk for developing coronary disorders. He is suggested to implemented changes in lifestyle to correct the cholesterol level back to normal.  
However, the cholesterol level measuring 220 ml/dl or higher is believed to be dangerously high and calls for immediate intervention of the doctor.

In such cases, the patients are given immediate dosage of cholesterol managing medicines to reduce the risk for heart ailments. He is recommended a strict diet along with medications that may continue for the entire life. Such a patient is strongly discouraged from indulging into strenuous physical exertions like brisk walking, jogging and weight lifting.
