High cholesterol and carbohydrates |
Excess consumption of carbohydrate rich food products is capable of elevating cholesterol level in blood. Unused carbohydrates within human body are the major reason behind this threat. Our body processes carbohydrates and from this all our vital body parts including brain acquire the required energy. When we eat higher amount of carbohydrate rich products, higher level of carbohydrate is processed. However, our body requires a certain level of carbohydrate for smooth functioning. Excess carbohydrates are converted into fatty acids and triglycerides. Generally our body stores these triglycerides for rainy days. However, excess storage of triglycerides leads to weight gain and has the potential to elevate bad cholesterol or LDL content in our body. Simultaneously, it also reduces the level of good cholesterol or HDL count and affects ratio between HDL and LDL significantly. It leads to several health threats like diabetes, heart diseases and overweight. Hence, while going for carbohydrates you need to be choosy. Studies have found brown rice; whole breads and different types of grains are safer choices. They offer you the required energy without affecting HDL and LDL ratio. Beans and whole wheat pasta are also recommended in this direction. These food products not only comprise dense carbohydrates but also are rich in other minerals and vitamins. |
