Can alcohol cause high cholesterol?

When alcohol is drunk in moderate quantities, it serves as a remedy against high cholesterol. According to some recent studies, it has been found that consumption of alcohol in moderate amounts help protect against vital heart diseases like strokes, as well as any death related to the heart or the blood vessels. The risk of death due to the heart or blood vessel based diseases has been found to be decreased by twenty five to forty percent. Consumption of alcohol in moderate quantity refers to having only one drink a day for women and two drinks a day for men. The concentration of alcohol also varies among various drinks. Therefore, the healthcare providers do prescribe to have twelve ounces of beer, five ounces of wine or one and a half ounces of 80-proof liquor as a moderate drink. While moderate amount of alcohol is good for high level cholesterol, simultaneously drinking too much of alcohol proves to be fatal for the people with increased levels of cholesterol. However, the increased consumption of cholesterol does not increase the level of cholesterol. Rather, it increases the triglycerides. As a result of which the liver, heart as well as the brain may be affected.
