Xanthelasmas which are yellow-white fat deposits around the eyelids may indicate presence of cholesterol and triglycerides. Mostly they do not cause any harm and are found in people of older age.
It is important to understand the symptoms of these cholesterol deposits on the eye lids so that one can understand that whether he has cholesterol or not. These deposits are mainly on the upper part quite close to the nose. They give the feeling like acne and are mostly painless and harmless. It takes a few months for them to grow. Even though they look like pimples, they do not emit puss if you press them.
It is important to note that such a condition does not always indicate presence of cholesterol and triglycerides. It may even indicate diabetes or some other illness. Normally, the doctor asks you to have a blood test so that the underlying health condition can be revealed. If Xanthelasmas or deposits on and around the eye lids are because of conditions like diabetes and cholesterol then in that case the doctor will recommend a strict diet and certain lifestyle modifications along with a few prescribed medications. These fatty deposits may be removed using cosmetic procedure. But even after removal they may grow back. |
