How dangerous is the combination of hypothyroid and cholesterol?

Usually, thyroid problems lead to high blood cholesterol level which result in dangerous effects. Most of the thyroid problems are caused due to decreased effectiveness of your thyroid gland. People with hypothyroidism mostly have elevated level of cholesterol in their body; this is due to the inability of thyroid gland to produce the thyroxin. Thyroxin is a hormone which is essential to break down the cholesterol. Hypothyroidism usually causes brittle hair, skin dryness and sensitive to cold. These symptoms also increase the cholesterol levels.

However, the treatment for thyroid disease is inexpensive and the medications used for treatment have no side effects. So this concludes that thyroid problems with high cholesterol level are not very dangerous if treated properly. Usually blood tests are conducted to diagnose thyroid problems but it is better if you request for additional cholesterol tests.
