Many studies have proved that dark chocolate is beneficial for the health of the heart. It is conceived from the extracts of plant, other than milk and coco. Therefore, a bar of dark chocolate offers the same benefits as offered by green vegetables. As per the studies, this chocolate essentially contains anti-oxidants which protect the body system from the dangers of free radicals. Moderate consumption of this agent is recommended for patients suffering from heart ailments, especially high cholesterol. It significantly cuts down the deposits of LDL cholesterol or bad cholesterol in the blood stream by up to 10 per cent. The anti-oxidants also correct the irregularities in blood pressure and allow for a smooth flow of blood throughout the cardiovascular system. It is significant to note that the fat content in the dark chocolate have neutral effect on the cholesterol level. It significantly contains oleic acid which is a form of mono-saturated fat and has no malign effect on the body. The other two fatty acids found in dark chocolates are stearic acid and palmitic acid. These two are forms of saturated fats, however, have no significant effect on the cholesterol deposits. Therefore, dark chocolates can be substituted for certain food items by heart patients. |
