Basically, there are two types of cholesterol in your body; they are low-density lipoprotein or LDL which is bad and high-density lipoprotein or HDL which is good. The cholesterol level is calculated by adding both the LDL and HDL levels plus the triglyceride level and that is divided by five. The universal formula to calculate cholesterol level is LDL + HDL + TG/5.
Most of the doctors conduct blood test to calculate your cholesterol level; this particular blood test is called as lipid panel and it also known as a lipid profile. This test is done as a fasting test. So, first you have be prepared for the cholesterol level test or lipid profiling that is you should not eat anything for at least 12 hours before the test. In the meanwhile, you can drink water. Usually the cholesterol level is calculated in terms of mg/dl (milligram/deciliter).
It is always better to review or compare your cholesterol level measurement with the normal range of cholesterol measurement. Most of the health physicians considered that cholesterol levels below 100 mg/dl to be normal, and the reading which is above 186 mg/dl is considered to be too high. After getting your result don’t forget to discuss with your doctor about the ways to reduce your LDL or bad cholesterol or to maintain your normal cholesterol level. |
