Lipitor has been in the news not for being and effective medicine in reducing cholesterol but for the side effects is has. The most common effects of patient consuming Lipitor are gas, constipation, rashes, vomiting, heartburn, bloating and diarrhea. Lipitor mainly affects the digestive system of the patient. Serious cases of Liver diseases have been reported by patients who consumed Lipitor for an extended period of time. In these patients it is seen that their liver functions improve after they stop the consumption of Lipitor. Therefore a patient having a history of liver related problems should avoid this drug. Hyperlipidemia or high cholesterol patients should avoid Lipitor if the patient is pregnant, breast feeding or is trying to become pregnant. One of the most serious side effects of consuming Lipitor for reducing Cholesterol is muscle degeneration. Patients show symptoms resembling to ALS or Gehrig’s disease. And this side effect is seen in most of the patients trying to reduce cholesterol by consuming Lipitor. The symptoms of this muscle degeneration disease are softness within the muscle, discolored or blood within the urine and weakness. For elderly patients the side effects of Lipitor become more pronounced. |
