Lipitor and diabetes

Several reports have well confirmed in the recent past that drugs associated with cholesterol lowering increase the risk of diabetes type-2 among patients. Lipitor is a good statin drug and is recommended for regulating over-all cholesterol level among patients. As per the test results conducted all over the world, the long term consumption of the lower dosage of this drug doubles the risk for diabetes. On the other hand, the drug may have fatal results among those patients who already have diabetes. According to experts, statins are predominantly known to interfere with various cellular processes. They essentially lead to the depletion of dolichol and isoprenoids. This in turn affects the insulin or the insulin growing agent in the body system. Over the years, the condition leads to growth of sugar factor or diabetes in the body.
