Red meat and cholesterol

Meat, in particular red meat, has been identified as one of the richest sources of dietary cholesterol. It is the very first food which doctors advice most of the heart patients, especially cholesterol patients to avoid. Red meat basically contains saturated fats which are not easily digestible by the digestive system. Therefore, the unlimited intake of this food type leads to the build-up of saturated fats in the body. This fat in later stages turns into cholesterol and starts accumulating around the arteries of the heart. This type of fat is also found in other food sources like beef, pork, lamb and dairy products.

Once the cholesterol begins to accumulate in the blood and around the arteries, they start getting converted into plaques. The plaques act as hindrances in the arterial walls and thus begin to obstruct the flow of blood. This on the other hand blocks the sufficient supply of oxygen to the entire coronary system of the body. As a result, the heart exerts more pressure to meet the need for oxygenated blood through the entire body. Such a condition becomes potentially dangerous and thus increases the risk for heart damages, absolute failure, strokes and attacks among patients.
