Are saturated fat and cholesterol different from each other?

Health and fitness conscious people have often been heard speaking about saturated fats and cholesterol. It is very important to avoid these two groups in order to maintain good health. However, these two are not similar entities.
Cholesterol is produced by the liver, which is further used by the body for the production of hormones, vitamins D and various other materials. It is important for the normal bodily functions, but in moderation. Cholesterol is available in foods and animal proteins like poultry, meat, eggs, dairy, liver, kidneys and brain.
Cholesterol is present in the blood stream and is often known as blood cholesterol. The level of cholesterol n the blood can be determined by a blood test. Eating too much of cholesterol can affect the blood vessels and often cut off the supply of blood to the heart, thereby causing stroke or brain damage.

Saturated fat, on the other hand, is not an essential fat for the body. It is mainly found in animal products like poultry, dairy and meat. Saturated fats are basically present in foods containing dietary cholesterol. Saturated fat consumption can increase the level of LDL cholesterol, also known as bad cholesterol, and cause severe health complications. It has a stronger effect on the heart and valves and it might pose to be a threat for the health of the heart.
