The major factor that increases the amount of fat in the body is triglycerides and cholesterol. It is necessary that a person must conduct regular test for the cholesterol. Increased amount of cholesterol causes obstruction in the blood flow which ultimately increases the risk of developing heart related diseases and problems such as coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis. There are two major types of cholesterol known as HDL which is good cholesterol and LDL which is bad cholesterol. Person undergoing such type of cholesterol test should not eat anything before 12 hours of test. Alcohol must not be consumed before 24 hours of the test. It is also necessary that you stop the intake of medicines before the test. The cholesterol test is performed by taking 5 milliliters of blood from the veins of your hands. The site of the veins is always cleaned with the help of antiseptic and then pressure is applied so that the veins are filled with blood. The blood also gives the information about the amount of HDL, LDL and other such information. During the test procedure, a person is allowed to drink water but not beverages such as tea, coffee and soda. |
